The truth is that Mallorca offers some of the most beautiful locations for family photography. From long sandy beaches and pine forests to charming fishing villages and historic streets, every corner of the island has something unique to offer.
Over the years, I’ve photographed families all around Mallorca, from quiet beaches and dramatic sea views to traditional villages and the old streets of Palma. Each location creates a different atmosphere, but they all have one thing in common: they provide a beautiful setting for families to spend time together and create lasting memories.
As a local family photographer in Mallorca, I always help families choose a location that feels right for them. Not just a pretty backdrop, but a place where children can move freely, parents can relax, and the experience feels natural from beginning to end.
Before we talk about locations, there’s something important I’d like to say.
While choosing the right setting certainly helps, the location is never the most important part of a family session.
The most meaningful photographs aren’t created by a beach, a village or a beautiful sunset. They’re created by the connection between the people in them.
The way your child reaches for your hand. The laughter you share. The hugs, the conversations, the little moments that often go unnoticed in everyday life.
A beautiful location can add to the story, but it can never replace the love, personality and relationships that make every family unique.
That’s why I always encourage families not to worry too much about finding the «perfect» place. The best family photos in Mallorca aren’t about the location itself — they’re about the people you share it with.
That said, choosing a location that matches your family’s personality can make the experience even more enjoyable. So here are some of my favourite places for a family photoshoot in Mallorca.
Northern Mallorca: Beaches, dunes and space to play
When many families dream of a family photoshoot in Mallorca, they imagine a beautiful sandy beach at sunset.
And I completely understand why.
However, one thing that’s important to know is that Mallorca can be very busy during the summer months, especially around the most popular beaches near Palma. Finding a quiet beach close to the city in July or August is often more difficult than visitors expect.
This is one of the reasons why I often recommend heading to the north of Mallorca, particularly to Son Serra de Marina and Can Picafort.
For families dreaming of a beach family photoshoot in Mallorca, these locations offer some of the best conditions on the island. Their long stretches of sand and open landscapes make it much easier to find quieter areas, even during the busiest weeks of the summer season.
By scheduling sessions during the last hour before sunset, we can usually enjoy beautiful light and plenty of space for children to run, play and explore without feeling surrounded by crowds.
Another reason I love these locations is the variety they offer. Beyond the beach itself, you’ll find natural dunes, wooden walkways, grassy areas and different textures that help create a gallery with more depth and variety than a typical beach session.
One thing many people don’t realise is that not every beach in Mallorca receives the same light at sunset. When choosing a location, I always pay close attention to the direction of the sun, as beautiful light can make an enormous difference to the final photographs.
For me, Son Serra de Marina and Can Picafort offer one of the best combinations of space, natural beauty and evening light anywhere in Mallorca.
Most importantly, these locations allow families to relax and enjoy the experience together. Children can move freely, parents don’t need to worry about posing, and the session naturally becomes part of the holiday itself.

El Toro: Forest, cliffs and sunset views
If you’re looking for a location that combines nature, sea views and a little sense of adventure, El Toro is one of my favourite places for a family photoshoot in Mallorca.
Located on the southwest coast of the island, this area offers something that is surprisingly difficult to find in a single location: pine forests, dramatic cliffs, open sea views and beautiful sunset light, all within a very short walking distance.
One of the reasons I love photographing families here is the variety it offers. During a single session, we can move between shaded forest paths, rocky viewpoints overlooking the Mediterranean and open areas where the sky seems to stretch endlessly towards the sea.
This variety helps create a gallery that feels rich and diverse, while keeping the experience simple and relaxed for families.
Children often love this location because there is always something to discover, whether it’s a winding forest path, an interesting rock formation or simply the endless view of the sea.
The forest also provides welcome shade during the warmer months, making it a wonderful option for families with young children. And as the sun begins to set, the cliffs become one of my favourite places in Mallorca to capture the beautiful golden light that makes evening sessions so special.
One of the things I appreciate about El Toro is that it often feels quieter than many of Mallorca’s more popular viewpoints, allowing families to focus on each other rather than the people around them.
For me, it’s one of those places that feels truly Mediterranean: the scent of pine trees, the sound of the sea below the cliffs and the warm evening light filtering through the trees.

Portocolom: Mediterranean charm, beautiful light and plenty of variety
Portocolom is one of those places that captures the essence of Mallorca beautifully.
What I love most about this location is the light. During the last moments before sunset, the harbour is filled with a warm golden glow that creates a relaxed and almost magical atmosphere. It’s one of my favourite places on the island for evening family sessions.
Another reason I often recommend Portocolom is the variety it offers. Within a relatively small area, we can create a gallery that feels rich and diverse without needing to travel between locations.
We usually start in the green areas near the harbour, where children can run freely, play and explore. There is also a beautiful wooden bridge that works wonderfully for natural family interactions and playful moments.
From there, we can move towards the waterfront, where the traditional fishing boats known as llaüts add a distinctly Mallorcan character to the photographs. These boats have been part of the island’s maritime heritage for generations and help create images that feel deeply connected to Mallorca.
And if the children feel like it, we can even finish the session by the water, splashing around, dipping little feet into the sea and enjoying those spontaneous moments that children often remember most.
The combination of beautiful light, authentic surroundings and different settings allows us to create a complete gallery full of variety, while keeping the experience relaxed and enjoyable for the whole family.
For families staying on Mallorca’s east coast, Portocolom is often one of the easiest and most convenient locations to reach. Many of my clients staying in areas such as Cala d’Or, Sa Coma or Cala Millor choose it because it offers so much variety without requiring a long drive.

Palma Old Town: Historic streets and Mediterranean charm
Not every family dreams of a beach photoshoot in Mallorca.
Some families are looking for something a little different: charming streets, beautiful architecture and a location that feels both elegant and full of character.
For those families, Palma Old Town can be a wonderful choice.
With its narrow streets, historic buildings, traditional shutters and hidden corners, Palma offers a completely different atmosphere from the island’s beaches and natural landscapes. The result is a gallery that feels timeless, relaxed and uniquely Mediterranean.
One of the things I love most about photographing families in Palma is that the city naturally invites people to slow down. Instead of running across the sand or exploring forest paths, families stroll through quiet streets, stop to admire beautiful buildings and enjoy spending time together as they discover the city.
One of the things that makes Palma particularly family-friendly is that we can easily adapt the pace of the session if needed. If the children get tired or the weather feels warm, we can stop for an ice cream, sit down at a café for a drink or simply take a short break before continuing.
These little pauses often become some of my favourite moments to photograph. Sharing an ice cream, chatting around a table or simply enjoying a few quiet minutes together can create natural and genuine photographs that tell the story of your family just as beautifully as any scenic backdrop.
Because of the strong summer sun, I usually recommend these sessions in the early morning, when the old town is calmer and the soft light reflects beautifully through the streets.
Another advantage of Palma is the variety it offers within a relatively small area. During a single session, we can photograph in narrow stone streets, charming squares, elegant archways and hidden corners that each add a different feel to the final gallery.
For families staying in Palma, Portixol, Cala Major or nearby areas, it’s also a very convenient option that doesn’t require a long journey across the island.
For me, Palma combines everything I love about family photography: beautiful light, authentic moments and a setting that feels both elegant and welcoming.

So, which location is right for your family?
The truth is that there is no single «best» location for a family photoshoot in Mallorca.
Some families love the freedom of a sandy beach. Others feel most at home surrounded by nature, while some are drawn to the charm of a fishing village or the character of Palma’s historic streets.
The most important thing isn’t finding the perfect location.
It’s finding a place where your family can relax, spend time together and simply enjoy being yourselves.
Because years from now, your children probably won’t remember whether the photographs were taken on a beach, beside a harbour or in a quiet city street.
What they’ll remember is the experience of being together.
And those are the memories worth keeping.
